I'm pleased to announce that the AIA Board of Directors has unanimously adopted the A&D Materials Pledge as the AIA Materials Pledge. The Materials Pledge is an aspirational definition of holistically sustainable materials that support Human Health, Climate Health, Ecosystem Health, and Social Health + Equity in a Circular Economy. Now that the Pledge is an official AIA program, we can look forward to additional education, new tools, and firm material metrics reporting.

The support of so many was a key factor in making it so easy for the AIA Board to adopt. We are grateful to the over 90 firms who signed on to the grassroots Materials Pledge letter in the last year and a half. Thank you to AIA staff, especially Melissa Wackerle, Saif Sadeq and Melissa Morancy, for their tireless support of this important work. Thank you to the Living Product 50 manufacturers, under the leadership of Annie Bevan and Alex Muller, who collaborate with us to "close the loop" and transform the building products industry. And, endless thanks to the members of the AIA Materials Knowledge Working Group who took the Materials Pledge from an idea to a clear set of aspirational statements and potential metrics.
