  • 1.  Asana vs Trello vs Monday - Project Managemenet/Task Apps

    We have a small firm of 5.  Now that we are working remotely due to Covid-19, efficiency has dropped dramatically.  We are actively looking for a new mobile software/app that will allow us to all stay on the same page with each project and help the 2 interns know which task to tackle next - without having to ask.  We have a high volume of projects for a small firm with a consistent load of 15 or more projects at any given time so juggling this amount of projects has become very difficult.  Any thoughts on Asana/Trello/Monday or something else?  Thank you.

    Unfortunately I don't have a ton of experience with these products, aside from a short lived trial of Trello.  However,  I would recommend checking out the work of Cal Newport since he's been thinking about this topic quite a bit and I really enjoy his recently launched podcast which discusses productivity quite a book.

    He has a book coming out in early 2021 titled "a world without email" and might be right up your alley, though unfortunately might not be particularly timely for your needs.

    Hi Shaun,

    We were using Trello pre-COVID to help manage projects.  Since we have been working remotely we have found it to be a very critical tool to communicate with our team.  It is very intuitive and can easily be manipulated to suit your needs. We have been very happy with it!

    Hi,
    We have been using Asana for a few years and it has proven to be very helpful in coordinating WFH since the start of the pandemia. 

    We were a 15 architects firm, now down to 10 after Covid, and even before the new working conditions it was a great collaboration tool that would facilitate keeping track of everybody's work. 

    Our priorities of the week Monday morning meetings are based on a revision of every project's pending assignments and next steps in Asana.  

    I personally use it as a support for the Getting Things Done (GTD) project tracking system, which makes it even a more powerful tool. 

    In all, I think all these apps and softwares are very similar on their main objective of project planning, and it mostly depend on which interface you feel more comfortable using and maybe if you need a particular function that one can do better than other.  

    At the end the importance is to use one so you can keep on top of your and your team's productivity.

    We've dabbled in Trello and Bascamp before however found the interface a little too shallow (unless you bundle on a lot of third-party apps). We've found Smartsheets, which I adore. It's like a more powerful Excel with easy features of adding images/files per row, assignments, and a gannt-chart, all in one. The only weakness is the email-notification, when sending it does not seem to give the recipient a preview of the topic.
