    Zoom Fatigue

    After years of predictions describing a future of "tele work", now the future is here and with it a lot of kvetching (Webster: to complain habitually): About "Zoom-fatigue", the lack of personal contact and the isolation that comes from operating in a home office. Its not just gossip at the water cooler (which sits unused in the vacant office), the term has made  it all the way into science and peer reviewed papers and  has become a matter of academic discourse.

     As is often the case with innovation, complaints overshadow the benefits. The deteriorated image of Facebook, Apple, Microsoft and Google amplifies the criticism. Where benefits are enumerated, they are usually seen in terms of efficiency, never for the joy they can bring.   

    The joy of getting more done in less time

    This is article is meant as a counterpoint to that cultural gripe, a celebration of the opportunities we get from the newly discovered tool of virtual meetings that has been around for some time and that the pandemic catapulted from a mere fringe existence.to center stage. 

    To fully appreciate the impact of the innovation especially on the US, one needs to understand that the US loves business meetings more than anybody else. I was appraised of this early on after I immigrated here. Americans love to meet, my colleague told me, and afterwards they say "this was a good meeting". Indeed, I have....READ FULL ARTICLE
