The mission of the AIA Design for Aging (DFA) Knowledge Community is to foster design innovation and disseminate knowledge necessary to enhance the built environment and quality of life for an aging society. This includes relevant research on characteristics, planning and costs associated with innovative design for aging. In addition, DFA provides outcome data on the value of these design solutions and environments.

    Pandemic Prognostication - A Common Sense Approach to Senior Living Design

    Sponsored by the Housing and Community Development (HCD) Knowledge Community, this live course provides 1 AIA LU/HSW credit.

    Description

    This course discusses how senior living communities and design professionals responded to the pandemic, how these responses affected senior living residents, and what we all learned. We will review ideas on the future of Senior Living communities and their designs, and review the AIA National re-opening charrette participation by the AIA Design for Aging Knowledge Community members. 

    Learning Objectives

    1. Learn about how Senior Living population was impacted by the pandemic.
    2. Learn how the AIA addressed the pandemic and provided guidelines.
    3. Learn how communities are currently addressing the pandemic
    4. Hear about design ideas for the future of Senior Living Design.
