I assume the contract form you downloaded was not an AIA form. If that is the case, the form you obtained might have been flagged because of rules for contractors, and the like, doing home improvement (ref. BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONS CODE SECTION 7150-7168). My understanding is that this does not apply to licensed Architects. If you're not going to use an AIA contract, you should at least be following the state regulations for Architects' contracts:
