The AIA Academy of Architecture for Health's Research Initiatives Committee will be downloading several new "bench-marking" case studies of previous AIA/AAH Healthcare Design Award winning projects over the summer months.  We are starting this download with the Harvey Pediatric Clinic by Marion Blackwell Architects; and we will be submitting one case study a week for the next few weeks.  To peek your interest, I have attached the first 2-page spread introduction for the Harvey Pediatric Clinic.  Go to the Library to see the rest of this Case Study.

We now have twenty-nine (29) Case Studies of the 2013 through 2017 Award Winning Projects in the Library.  We have drafted several of the 2018 and 2019 Award Winning projects Case Studies and several of those will be submitted over the summer.  We want to encourage the Academy members to start utilizing this valuable resource and to utilize the standardized format and take-off procedures we are using on your own projects so that we can collectively create a more standardized approach to both square footage take-offs and "bench-marking" dialogues as an Industry.

We recognize that we have just scratched the surface on this "bench-marking' effort, but we will be adding more intradepartmental square footage take-offs and key clinical space take-offs and comparisons as we progress.  We are currently working toward introducing more detailed Diagnostic & Treatment intradepartmental take-offs and key clinical space comparisons at HCD 2020 this fall in the AIA/AAH Research Forum.

In the end, the success of our efforts will depend on the Academy membership's commitment to a larger engagement and dialogue with the Library.  Please take the opportunity to visit the Case Study Library and join our dialogue!

    Respectfully Yours,

    Byron
