    Hi All,

I'm looking for classroom size benchmarking data for new K-12 schools? I have a client who is interested in what new schools are providing for different types of spaces -science, art, language, etc.

    Thanks,
    joey

Most states have standards set up that you could find on the state web site.  We often reference Ohio and Minnesota standards.  Our state, Missouri, used to have standards but has recently quit publishing them for some reason.

That is a loaded question, and the answer lies in the discovery of the methodology of learning at the school.

A rigid curriculum school will need less, a more progressive 21st
Century Learning environment more and more flexible spaces, such as break out spaces and open connections between circulation and classrooms.

Start with how many student per class. Then the number of teachers, then occupant load, then go up from there.  It really goes to the schools mission, find that out then you have the key.

Science is a different animal, and the required curriculum at the elementary level is much different than at the high school level, so you have more flexibility.  A classroom for science in elementary school can be anything you want it to be, not just 4 walls and a ceiling....

Here in KY we use the Kentucky School Planning Guide, which can be found here http://education.ky.gov/districts/fac/Documents/Facilities%20Planning%202008.pdf. For what I think you are seeking go to page 46. Hope this helps.

    Good morning.

If you are talking about public schools in California, here are our standards: Title 5, California Code of Regulations, Division 1, Chapter 13, Subchapter 1, School Facilities Construction, Article 1. General Standards
