  • 1.  Antiligature hard ceilings/acoustics

    Posted 03-11-2019 04:23 PM
    Hi everyone,

I am looking for great ideas! We replaced some lay in ceilings in some small behavioral health rooms with gyp board to make them anti-ligature, and as I anticipated, the rooms are now "echoy". Rooms are roughly 80-90 SF each with a 9'-6" ceiling, and they are carpeted. Everything else is painted gyp board. Any recommendations for an antiligature/durable solution?

    Hello Heather,

Assume patient sleeping rooms?  I'm not sure there is anything permanent you can do in this type of room.  I know shower curtains are often held with Velcro (so they release under weight).  Wonder if you could use Velcro to hang an extra patient blanket (usually found in a heap on the floor) on one of the walls.  Maybe the fabric would add some color and help diffuse some of the echo?....just a thought...best of luck.

You may want to investigate "acoustic plaster" systems. They can be expensive, but you are dealing with a small area depending on how many separate rooms are involved. BASWA (BASWA acoustic ® Sound Absorbing Plaster | BASWA Phon Acoustical Plaster) is one of the most well known brands, but there are other competitors as well.

Heather, would recommend using full width Tectum panel(s) adhered to the gypsum board ceiling.

    Heather,

You should look at an acoustic gypsum board product for walls and ceilings that is specifically for sound problem you have.

GypSorb is such a product.  Look at Gypsorb.com.

GypSorb looks like a great product and probably the best cost option.
