Who we are

The Academy page supports AIA's efforts to connect education and practice. AIA works with faculty, staff and students; practitioners; and collateral organizations to support excellence in education and research, expand the pathway to the profession, and prepare future architects. AIA regularly pools resources with AIAS, ACSA, NCARB, NAAB, and others to provide scholarships, educational programming, research, resources, and more.

    AIA staff, Kathleen O'Donnell, posted an article on architecture education and community engagement. Many of you will recognize this as service or experiential learning, or one of the recommendations of the Boyer Report (1995), but also going back 40 years to the beginning of community design centers in the 1960s and 70s. No matter the term, it is a valuable and important  learning experience.

    ACSA     released their 2019 Architectural Education winners, which included Sandra Vivanco, a member of our Higher Education Advisory Team (HEAT).  

    The European Space Agency enlisted architecture students to design a Moon base. Take a look here. 

    David Bland, AIA Knowledge Communities, shared information on upcoming EDSpaces conference on educational spaces, technology and more. Check it out here. Deadline to submit proposals is March 8, 2019.

    ARCHITEXX has a call for 1-2 minute student films on women architects and more. Learn more here. 

    The Mellon Foundation makes grants in architecture and urbanism. More info here.
