2019 Sho-Ping Chin Women's Leadership Summit Grant
In honor of Sho-Ping Chin, FAIA the Architects Foundation is thrilled to offer a grant opportunity for mid-career to senior level architects to attend the 2019 AIA Women's Leadership Summit September 12-14. Sho-Ping was a Principal at Payette and in 2009 the founding leader of the inaugural AIA Women's Leadership Summit. The memorial fund established in her name is focused on funding the development of future women leaders in architecture. The 2019 recipients will be the next generation of Sho-Ping Chin Leaders.

Solar Decathlon
Collegiate institutions can start preparing for the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon® Design Challenge, which spans 2019 and 2020. It gives teams the option to participate in one of two Challenges: the Design Challenge or the Build Challenge.
Below are key dates for the 2020 Design Challenge:
- July 2019 – Solar Decathlon Competition Guide is released, and the team application opens.
- November 2019 – All Design Challenge participating teams must complete the team application.
- September 2019 to March 2020 – Webinars and building science trainings are offered.
- April 17-19, 2020 – Finalist teams complete their project submissions and compete with presentations to industry leaders.
Organizers also provided a list of 47 teams, representing 38 collegiate institutions, as finalists in the Design Challenge Weekend, April 12-14, 2019, at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado!

National Park Service Competitions for professionals and students
AIA Historic Resources Committee proudly partners with the National Park Service on both the Holland and Peterson Prizes. Recipients receive a cash prize and their drawing is added the permanent HABS/HAER/HALS Collection of measured drawings at the Library of Congress.
Leicester B. Holland Prize Deadline: April 30
The Holland Prize is an annual competition that recognizes the best single-sheet measured drawing of a historic building, site, or structure to the standards of the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), or the Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS). The prize honors Leicester B. Holland, FAIA, founder and first curator of the HABS collection.
Charles E. Peterson Prize Deadline: June 1
Each year, the Peterson Prize recognizes the best set of measured drawings prepared to The National Park Service's Heritage Documentation Program (HDP) standards and donated to HDP by students. The prize honors Charles E. Peterson, FAIA, founder of the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS).

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Building Energy Codes Program offers a variety of training resources, ranging from overviews to a variety of special topics and tutorials. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) will be hosting two upcoming webinars.
Basic HVAC Controls and Energy Codes

- This webinar will begin with a brief introduction to basic HVAC controls and compliance strategies, followed by results from a recent field study on new building control systems. Many basic control systems will be covered, including space temperature controls, outside air economizers, ventilation dampers, and demand controlled ventilation.
