Who we are

The Academy page supports AIA's efforts to connect education and practice. AIA works with faculty, staff and students; practitioners; and collateral organizations to support excellence in education and research, expand the pathway to the profession, and prepare future architects. AIA regularly pools resources with AIAS, ACSA, NCARB, NAAB, and others to provide scholarships, educational programming, research, resources, and more.

    Happy Pre-Memorial Day Weekend and Congratulations to all those recent and upcoming Graduates!  It has been a really tough year and a half, but many thanks to all the students, faculty, administrators and families who have worked so hard in spite of a pandemic! A few reminders and announcements follow to kick off your long weekend. 

    Attention all Architecture grads graduating this semester or in 2021. Don't forget to take advantage of the Free 18 month membership to AIA and the various benefits, such as the Career Center, resume review, etc.   

    Congrats to all the 2021 Henry Adams medalists!  The Architecture Foundation has taken over administering this program which recognizes the top graduate in a NAAB-accredited program. The submission site will remain open till October, so faculty and administrators, please get those submissions in and learn more here

    Just in case you missed it, the NAAB is offering webinars and resources for helping with the 2020 accreditation conditions.  Check out their website for more information here.

    AIA hosts our annual conference online over four different days in June, July and August - check it out here. Jose Andres is a keynote!

    The 2021 BTES Conference is June 10-12, 2021. The Thursday and Friday highlights will include seven diverse paper sessions, an event honoring the winners of the emerging faculty award and book award, and a  presentation from  keynote speaker, Jennifer Bonner. Saturday will feature two workshops (cove.tool and ClimateStudio) to close the conference.


    Another DOE Solar Decathlon virtual Design and Build Challenge was held in May and winners announced by an enthusiastic Sec. of Energy, Jennifer Granholm.  Check out the list of winners here. 

    The DOE Building Technologies Office also hosted a great free conference in May and announced a list of initiatives and programs addressing energy. Check them out and sign up to stay in the loop for more information and upcoming webinars.

    Last call for articles for TAD -- Technology | Architecture + Design for the forthcoming Histories issue. Manuscripts (3000 to 5000 words) for double-blind peer review are due June 15, 2021. Submission standards can be found in the TAD Journal Author Guide.

    GRANTS
    The Graham Foundation has announced 71 new grants from a field of 700 submissions. The next round of applications (2022) is coming up with deadlines of Sept. 15, 2021 for individuals and Nov. 15 for 2022 Carter Manny Award - Applications available July 15. 

    Kajeet Digital Inclusion Grant opportunity closes June 4, 2021. For academia, K-12, non-profits, cities and towns needing Internet support. 

    Check out the International Epidemic Urbanism webinars on YouTube - posted from their recent conference. 

    Finally the final proof for the 2020 Intersections Proceedings is almost complete. It will be posted on BRIC as soon as it is available.
