Who we are

The Academy page supports AIA's efforts to connect education and practice. AIA works with faculty, staff and students; practitioners; and collateral organizations to support excellence in education and research, expand the pathway to the profession, and prepare future architects. AIA regularly pools resources with AIAS, ACSA, NCARB, NAAB, and others to provide scholarships, educational programming, research, resources, and more.

Free access to the journal of Technology I Architecture + Design (TAD) until August 1!

Due to the pandemic, the journal of Technology | Architecture and Design (TAD)  is free and open until August 1, 2020.  This issue has many papers that should be of interest to practitioners including an essay challenging the research/practice divide, reviews of California Energy regulations and the Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan, an essay on mass-timber performance-based codes, and a paper about how questions that arose in practice and were researched through academic partnerships contributed to Helsinki's new public library. There is also an analysis of Guastavino specifications and a paper describing a project for neurodiverse students. Finally, in the COVID-19 period, there is much discussion of robotic construction - this issue has an essay by the founder of a layout automation startup and a paper by an interdisciplinary team considering automation and the future of equitable work
