ABOUT THE AIA CODES AND STANDARDS COMMITTEE

First formed in the 1950s, the AIA Codes and Standards (C&S) Committee guides the AIA's leading role in the development of the national model building codes published by the International Code Council (ICC).

Architects' leadership in the development of construction codes and standards and other regulations directly affects the success and prosperity of AIA members, the profession, and our communities. Today's C&S Committee is a premier example of AIA members leading the way, embracing the call to advocacy, and providing a credible and reliable voice in the public policy process. Future committee members can also look forward to helping implement some of the recommendations of the AIA Blue Ribbon Panel on Codes report "Disruption, Evolution, and Change". If you have ever wondered how the codes and standards you use every day are made, this is your opportunity to help shape them all across the country.

There are positions open on the C&S Committee for one-year terms beginning in January 2021 (with possible renewal for two additional one-year terms for a total of three years' service). We especially encourage interested Emerging Professional members to apply.
