Who we are

The goal of the Building Performance Knowledge Community (BPKC) is to promote architects as leaders in the application of technical design for building performance; in the use of high-performance design criteria, codes, and standards; and in programming, designing and managing building performance. To advance, disseminate, and advocate—to the architecture profession, AIA members, building owners, the construction industry, the academy, and the public—design practices that create buildings that are healthy, energy efficient, and durable.

Building America: Building Science is Critical to Whether Buildings Work or Fail-Educating Workforce Professionals for Success

    1. Tue, May 30, 2017 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM EDT

During this DOE Building America webinar, speakers will provide an overview of how building science education efforts at DOE are transforming the building industry. The annual Race to Zero Student Design Competition just wrapped up its fourth event. See work from the one team that stood out among other outstanding entries. To complement this competition, DOE has been developing Guidelines for Building Science Education that establish a national platform for competency. This includes critical skills and knowledge across a comprehensive set of workforce classifications involved in residential and commercial buildings. See how this new platform works and tour a website that can help professors and trainers easily provide and use peer-reviewed lecture notes, problem sets, and teaching materials that align with these guidelines. Also, DOE has the Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines that integrate building science skills in certification and accreditation programs for commercial building workforce professionals. See how these guidelines are effectively partnering with associations overseeing four different workforce classifications. Join this webinar to find out how you can get involved in all of these important initiatives! Presenters: -Sam Rashkin, Building Technologies Office Chief Architect at U.S. DOE -Cheryn Metzger, Senior Engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory -Sara Farrar, Senior Project Leader at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory -Priya Swamy, Manager, Commercial Buildings Workforce Development at U.S. DOE Less
