I'm currently working on the LaGuardia Airport project, before I commence on my finding(s), I'd like to flag this is an operating airport during every stage of construction and to also bring to light the largest North American infrastructure project. Since I've been on this project, the following is a short list of some of the ongoing existing building focus to improve in the new development:
1. Focus in bringing more natural light into each building to minimize the use to electrical lighting.
2. Focus in introducing solar power to minimize in energy consumption.
3. introducing automated window shades to roll down when there's too much sunlight and glare.
4. Introducing unique and durable architectural finishes to compliment the project as well as initiating sustainability and energy consumption.
5. Implementing new ideas to provide airport-friendly use for all, including passengers with less mobility (i.e.; wheelchair, ambulant and others if any), vision impaired and the elderly.
6. There's heaps of other new features and perks, yet to come!

Subject: How have trends in energy codes impacted your practice?
In recent years, we've seen an increased focus on existing buildings in energy codes. Has your practice been working more with existing buildings?
