  • 1.  Managing and distributing construction drawing updates

    Posted 07-23-2019 02:53 PM
I am an architect working for a Design/Build General Contractor.  We are faced with the age-old dilemma of distributing construction documents to subcontractors and then later redistributing pages to reflect changes and updates...but subs continue using old drawings, because their notes are there.

As a Design-Builder we add the twist that subs often begin pricing with preliminary drawings.

How do you make sure the drawings used in the field are the most up to date version?

The old school way was to keep a list of all construction documents (drawings, specs, reports) with a date column that is updated every week.  The older school way is to make it clear in the contracts that mistakes and claims associated with using old documents are to be solely carried by the offender.

There are many online construction management solutions available addressing this very issue. I would start with Procore and work your way around the internet researching the product best matching your needs.

Please call me on my cell phone with any questions.
