Urbanism Next Conference - Call for Sessions/Workshops - Due Dec 5th

  • 1.  Urbanism Next Conference - Call for Sessions/Workshops - Due Dec 5th

    Posted 10-31-2019 03:45 AM

Given the online and direct responses I got to the last post I did regarding the impacts of new mobility on design, I wanted to send out the Call for Sessions for the Urbanism Next Conference that is happening May 13-15, 2020.

The conference focuses on the impacts of New Mobility, AVs, E-Commerce and the sharing economy on cities and communities.  It is not so much focused on these technologies as it is on the ramifications of these technologies for things like land use, urban design, building design, transportation and real estate. Much of the focus is also on how this will all affect equity, health, the environment and the economy --- and what can be done about this to make sure we are pointing towards positive outcomes for communities.

The call for sessions and workshops is here: Overview - Urbanism Next.  It was just announced last week and is due on Dec. 5th.  I would LOVE to have more designers and design issues represented at the conference. --- As I had mentioned in my original post, there has been a marked lack of engagement from the design field in many of these conversations.  The conference is applied, so we are not looking for fantastical and imaginary ideas -- instead, we are looking for real-world impacts (and solutions) designers are seeing due to the rise of New Mobility, AVs, and E-Commerce.

Both AIA-RUDC and AIA Oregon are partners for the conference, as are APA, ASLA, and ULI.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions and I hope to see more proposals from this group!

    Best,
    -Nico
