Who we are

The AIA Technology in Architectural Practice Knowledge Community (TAP) serves as a resource for AIA members, the profession, and the public in the deployment of computer technology in the practice of architecture. TAP leaders monitor the development of computer technology and its impact on architecture practice and the entire building life cycle, including design, construction, facility management, and retirement or reuse.

  • 1.  3D printing for COVID-19

My colleague Jennifer White asked me to post the following message in response to the current need for health care masks:

The medical community is facing extreme shortages of masks and ppe, including nearby hospitals and testing sites throughout Illinois and Indiana. We are reaching out to everyone in the industry to help by using available 3d printers to produce these masks. There is a template for producing face masks with 3D printers that can be sterilized and reused, reducing the amount of required filtration material that is in short supply across the world. There is a company that can supply the filters to fit these masks. Please refer to the below link for templates and instructions on how you can help.  There is also a company in Valparaiso, IN producing these masks and asking to borrow any available printing equipment. Please check with local organizations on what options there would be for donation, or if there would be rebates available for the costs.

    Chyanne:

Proud to report that the Boeing Company will be using its 3D printing capabilities to produce face shields as part of the response to COVID-19.

We are trying to do same in Florida.  Florida Atlantic University has been in touch with hospitals and non-profits in the region and there is tremendous need.  So far thousands are needed and our capacity is 200-250 max per 24 hour cycle.  We have reached out to AIA Florida Association about mobilizing an effort statewide and await response.
