The Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN®) Knowledge Community develops knowledge and information to benefit architects who are engaged in, or who are interested in learning more about, custom residential practice. CRAN® presents information and facilitates the exchange of knowledge and expertise to promote the professional development of its members via discussion forums, national symposia and conventions, publications, and local activities.

    ResArch Lab: The Mycelium Project – Exploring the potential of fungi for the decarbonization of residential building components – Sponsored by NYCRAN Feb. 10, 6 PM Eastern.

    The discoveries being made by the scientists and designers who study "Living Systems" have the potential to significantly improve the built environment.

    Practical applications of this science are taking place in building design, offsite fabrication, air purification, the consumption of plastic (with no negative impact on the environment), and so much more. For example, building insulation created with fungi is naturally resistant to fire and can provide 2-3 times the insulation value of many of today's commonly available insulation materials.     About the speakers:

    Jonathan Dessi-Olive is a researcher, designer, and educator. His work takes a critical approach to technology while integrating the history and theory of architecture, contemporary construction, and computational design. Presently he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at Kansas State University, where he teaches architecture studios, seminars, and structural design.
