A MESSAGE FROM THE APT DC PRESIDENT

Dear APT DC Members and Friends:

One of my major initiatives is to ensure the chapter is doing its best to serve our entire territory – which is inclusive of DC, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Southern Delaware (Sussex County). Ours is a region incredibly rich both with history and with historic preservation talent and wisdom. Including the perspectives and knowledge of preservation professionals throughout the broader area will only strengthen the programming and networking opportunities we are able to provide.

As part of the effort to continue expanding outreach across the region, I'd like to invite APT DC members and friends to join a new regional outreach working group I'll be convening in the coming weeks. The group's specific objectives will be to:

    • Locate and communicate with individuals, organizations, and firms within our chapter territory whose interests may align with APT's mission but who have been unaware of being in our catchment area and/or previously unable to actively engage with APT DC.
    • Generate ideas to promote the chapter and its programming to preservation professionals across the region.
    • Develop strategies for growing chapter membership, partnership, and board/committee involvement in the farther reaches of our territory.
    • Identify potential events (tours, lectures, workshops, networking, etc.) that could be hosted outside of the Greater DC area (including Tidewater, Central, and Southern Virginia, West Virginia, Baltimore, Annapolis, Western Maryland, and the Delmarva Peninsula).

We will meet monthly for 1-hour weekday lunchtime conference calls. Our first call will be Thursday, April 25. If you are interested in joining, please contact info@aptdc.org with the subject, Regional Outreach Group for call-in information.

Finally, if you know of preservation professionals in the far reaches of our territory who might be interested, please share this message as they will be more than welcome to participate, even if they're not (yet!) APT DC members.

Thanks so much for all you do to make our chapter so extraordinary,

    Bryan Fisher, AIA
    APT DC 2019 Chapter President
