I thought I would share this info with the group. After a disastrous rollout of dropbox* we signed up with Egnyte. Egnyte behaves like an office server and just like the office server automatically locks a file when some else has it open. You can also share a folder with the outside world without uploading to other services. Once you install the app on your computer you will be automatically logged in and be able to access your files, xrefs, blocks and network AutoCAD settings just like a typical server. It also works great with our Revit users. Given the current situation we would be dead without it.
Cheers
*DropBox does not provide a file lock, instead it renames any file you open with your name which creates in no time an endless list of files which have been opened by team members. Lastly I just read the new features for AutoCAD 2021 and they claim that you are now able to compare different versions of the files in DropBox. Wow, unless a version has been specifically saved as such I don't understand why you would want to do this.
