California Assembly Bill 2800 requires the state to consider climate change for all state funded infrastructure and created the Climate-Safe Infrastructure Working Group to develop strategies for how to incorporate climate change into design as well as to investigate the obstacles that prevent us from doing so.
Our report, released last week, identifies the challenges, obstacles, and processes designers need to address if we are to make wise infrastructure investment decisions in an uncertain future.
I encourage you to read the report and to start a dialogue with others architects, governmental agencies, clients, and investors about how we can take a leadership role in developing the new regulatory requirements and structures that will be needed if we are to successfully navigate the changes now upon us.
