Who we are

The Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) is a Knowledge Community of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We are a large and active group of over 10,000 architects and allied professionals concerned with the quality and design of all types of educational, cultural, and recreational facilities that promote lifelong learning in safe, welcoming and equitable environments. The CAE’s mission is to foster innovative and collaborative design of educational facilities and to heighten public awareness on the importance of learning environments.

What works in K-8 and why? Good question...!

Better Designs Through Deeper Understandings.  Understanding our clients’ perspectives is at the heart of what we do as architects, but how often do we step away from the drafting table to dig below the surface?  Unfortunately, not often enough.  Such is life these busy days.  All the more reason that I'm excited that Grimm+Parker is committing resources to investigate a topic generating a surprising amount of interest across the country: K-8 schools.  Do they work and, if so, why?  By surveying experienced educators Grimm+Parker hopes to fill in the gaps and provide insight to school districts currently considering the question.

Please join me in pushing the survey to as many of our colleagues in education as possible.  The survey link is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K-8Survey .  And if you're an educator with K-8 experience along the way, please share your experience through the survey.  By all means!
