Membership Recruitment & Goals
Expand membership via active recruitment by current members
Develop a schedule of activities to attract new members via AIA/CAE website
Encourage broader connections between all sub committees
Create a network of local chapter CAE relationships to foster greater networking nationwide (directory)

Discussion of the Future of Learning and Teaching Environments
Study of makerspaces and “collaboratories” in higher education and links back to secondary education
Resurgence and integration of social sciences into other disciplines
Explore methodologies for increased engagement of teachers and students in our design process
Importance of sustainable design in an integrated design approach and educational benefits

Increased Understanding of Data as a Tool for Design
Programming strategies to increase responsive planning (workshops, interviews, benchmarking, other)
Graphic tools to enhance user understanding of critical design role of a solid program of
The future of higher education in current and future times of change in the economy and government
Harnessing multiple methods of data collection and use to fuel better design

Models for Implementation
Refresh monthly calls and foster greater member involvement to thrive (topics beyond case studies)
Explore development of white paper(s) to prompt further research; seek forum for live engagement
Plan and develop greater subcommittee participation in CAE conferences and national convention
Organize sub groups to organize efforts above (and beyond) those outlined above

Report on National Convention in Orlando

  • Congratulations to our colleagues, Stu Pettitt and Lisa Johnson, for the recent elevation to the College of Fellows, Class of 2017, It was my pleasure to witness your investiture in Orlando last week. Michael
  • CAE Tour at A’17 was reasonable well attended. M.A.Nieminen worked the A’18 help desk to clarify CAE’s role in coordinating next year’s CAE tour with NYC A’18 Tour Coordinator, Cathy Lang Ho.
  • Also...M.Nieminen is heading up a local CAE roundtable discussion at The Center for Architecture in NYC on 19 June entitled, “The Culture of Security in the New Age of Educational Planning” featuring the architects and security consultant for the new Sandy Hook school in New Town, CT as well as speaking about diverse approaches to enhanced security in NYC’s urban K-12 schools.
