Tom is currently a Professor and Director of the Graduate Architecture Program — teaching both undergraduate building design studios and co teaching graduate interdisciplinary (architecture and structural engineering) building design studios.Since 1995 Tom has served as faculty member at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Before coming to Cal Poly he taught part-time at University of California @ Berkeley and Cornell. At Cal Poly Tom has developed multi-disciplinary collaborations with other departments along with linkages between the academy and professional practice. Among the student research programs he founded are the Community Interdisciplinary Design Studio (CIDS), which initiates collaborative community projects with other departments, including New Media Arts, English, Liberal Arts, Computer Science, as well as design and construction-related departments. During Professor Fowler's teaching career he has received a number of national and local awards in recognition of his teaching and research activities, along with a range of his students' work being recognized at local, national and international competitions.Specialties: Undergraduate and graduate (interdisciplinary) building design studios, and multi- disciplinary collaborative design + build projects.
