David Woodcock has qualifications in Architecture and in Town and Country Planning from the University of Manchester, England. He taught at Manchester and the Kent Institute of Art and Design, and was a Fulbright Teaching Fellow in Architecture at Texas A&M University from 1962-66, returning to College Station in 1970. He led the Center for Heritage Conservation from 1991-2007 and is now Director Emeritus. He teaches and consults in heritage conservation, in which he helped to establish a university-wide, cross-disciplinary graduate certificate.
He is Past President of the Association for Preservation Technology International, Past Chair of the American Institute of Architects Historic American Buildings Survey Coordinating Committee, and was 2009 Chair of the national AIA Historic Resources Committee.
He was named Distinguished Professor by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (1991), elected Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (1992), Fellow of the Association for Preservation Technology International (2004), Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (2004), and recipient of the James Marston Fitch Award for Lifetime Achievement by the National Council of Preservation Education (2010.)
