As Edward Gauvreau, the AIA DC and the Washington Architectural Foundation have been engaging K-12 students in hands-on, project based learning for over 25 years through the Architecture in the Schools program (https://www.aiadc.com/program/architecture-schools) in addition to our other recent additions such as Design Like a Girl, Tools of the Trade and Children's Neighborhood Walking Tours (which are now available online). The Architects and Design Educators Network ( A+DEN - http://aaonetwork.org/groups/architecture-design-education-network ) through AAO has been fostering this collaboration of educators and architects for many years.
We should build upon the successes programs in Washington, New York, Boston, Seattle, Chicago, Dallas, Cranbrook, Carnegie Mellon and many others around the country.
If you are not familiar with A+DEN, contact John Comazzi and Kelly Lyons for more information.
