parsing the numbers on climate change

    Interesting article:
How long do we really have to save the planet from global warming?

This is a big and important question and this piece covers a lot of ground on the topic.

Perversely, I have a sense that the timeline almost doesn't matter because we are already seeing the effects of climate change, right now, as a problem multiplier. We need to decarbonize; it is the only way to start a reverse of global warming. If we keep on the current pace, climate change impacts will continue to increase. And understanding climage change as a multiplier, rather than a discrete problem (Catharine Hayhoe talks about this most eloquently) is key. No matter what "issue" or "problem" someone cares about most (hunger, jobs, homelessness, etc.), that challenge will be exacerbated by climate change. Now is the time to escalate, study, test, and explore ALL the solutions in all the industries.

In architecture, part of that is super un-sexy but critical: get regs and incentives in place to insist on reuse. But our industry really does need to think far beyond the building, especially now. Bigger steps are going to involve land management. And vast cultural change, of course. That, too.
