    Communities are changing rapidly and the active involvement of architects can (and should) facilitate that change. Of the many traits that characterize a leader, the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and provide direction are crucial, particularly to municipalities and local decision-making entities. Architects are well positioned to assume leadership roles within the public realm given that innovative thinking and a commitment to design excellence helps drives the profession. Many architects are already serving in important roles such as planning and zoning commissioners, mayors, council members and more. In this way, architects help educate the public on their valuable contributions as well as impact their local communities in a positive way. As an architect, what are volunteer opportunities that you can pursue within your respective locality?
