Really solid article by David Altenhofen in September Technique on how to approach energy reduction/ sustainability. The first strategies used create diminishing returns for strategies applied later. I would add the importance of creating a well planned space program to make sure the facility is "right-sized" for the intended use and that new construction scope should be coordinated with continued use of existing buildings where possible, especially for clients with multiple buildings on a single site. Also important to focus on strategies for improving existing building performance since we replace only a very small percentage of our building stock each year.
