Who we are

The AIA Project Delivery Knowledge Community (PD) promotes the architect’s leadership role in all project delivery methods by assembling and distributing knowledge and best practices for a variety of project delivery methods, e.g. design-build (DB), integrated project deliveries (IPD), and public-private partnerships (P3).

Letter from the Chair, March 2017

By Robert Lewis Bostwick FAIA posted 03-07-2017 11:38 AM

Dear Project Delivery Knowledge Community (PDKC) members,

Although we’re already into March, I want to wish you all the very best for 2017! I am pleased to serve as the new Chair of the PDKC Advisory Group (AG), and I want to thank Lisa Lamkin, FAIA, for her great leadership last year. She worked hard to energize and expand our AG, to improve our website with an updated appearance and more helpful content, and to raise the awareness of our KC at the AIA Conference on Architecture. Over the recent weeks our AG has already been strategizing for 2017 and beyond. We have some exciting initiatives to create more value to the KC members. Here are just a few of the things we’re planning:

  • Organize and host a “Project Delivery Congress,” a one-day conference around recent innovations in project delivery systems that are improving outcomes through new methods of collaboration.
  • Increase the engagement of our 10,000+ PDKC members through more frequent emails, social media, and providing access to articles, whitepapers and research that lead to improved project delivery.
  • Explore collaborations with other KC’s, such as Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP), the Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) and Practice Management (PM).
  • Develop alliances with like-minded professional groups including the Lean Construction Institute, COAA, BIM Forum and others.

Our AG members have deep professional experience and a broad interest in innovative project delivery methods. They represent diverse areas of the country and bring extremely helpful insights into the varied regional approaches to project delivery. Although the AG is hard-working and committed, we could use the help of any interested members to make our KC stronger. Please contact me if any of our initiatives are inspiring, or if you have some great ideas on new directions for project delivery.

I'd like to close with a personal introduction. For much of my career I have been working to achieve more successful project results through collaborative, team-based project delivery methods. In various presentations to AIA State Chapters and our AIA Conference on Architecture, I’ve been a strong advocate for the architect as the most capable leader to successfully integrate a complex project team. In 2017 and the years ahead, I hope to help the PDKC advance these goals, and to become an increasingly valuable resource for improved project outcomes.

I welcome your thoughts and comments. I’m excited for the year ahead and the great potential the PDKC has to change our industry!

Sincerely,
