The Academy of Architecture for Health is partnering with Planetree International. Planetree is an organization that promotes excellence in person-centered care.

Planetree inspires caregivers to personalize, demystify, and humanize the patient experience. Their goal is for healthcare organizations to meet the human right of respect, inclusion and compassion towards their patients, family and the community with patient-centered care. Person-centered care focuses on respectful, warm and supportive patient care by using evidence-based decision making, changing the business as usual model and, giving patients and family more knowledge about their care in order to make them true partners in their care.

Planetree offers a Certification for Excellence in Person-Centered Care to healthcare organizations along with training and services to support and educate the healthcare industry towards person-centered care. Planetree works with the healthcare organization to develop a plan that affects the organizational culture, infrastructure and processes in order to achieve person-centered care. Healthcare facilities who earn the certification show an improvement in patient outcomes, staff satisfaction and retention, and patient experience scores. Planetree also offers consulting, a Speakers Bureau, and Language of Caring. Through consulting they help healthcare organizations implement person-centered care with assessments, training and, coaching. With their Speakers Bureau they share firsthand knowledge from a variety of perspectives to share and engage with patients, family, or employees to inspire and help transform how healthcare is delivered. Language of Caring is a branch of Planetree that focuses on using and teaching compassionate communication techniques to improve patient experience.

This past October at the 2019 Planetree International Conference on Person-Centered Care the Academy of Architecture for Health and Planetree partnered in a panel discussion. The aim was to share and discuss how Planetree’s principles can be used in design and construction projects to foster person-centered care.

Planetree connects with healthcare providers around the world to promote person-centered care excellence and partners with likeminded organizations like the Academy to further share their mission of “inspiring caregivers to make patients true partners in their care, meeting their human needs and improving outcomes.”
