It is my pleasure to serve as the chair of CRAN®
for 2019. For the past 3 months our Executive Committee and Advisory Group have been busy organizing various activities for 2019. Please go to our homepage to stay up to date with our events and other news.
Our Yearly Symposium
We are actively preparing another great Symposium, which will take place in Scottsdale, AZ this September 12-15. Expect an outstanding home tour, 2 days of solid, worthwhile educational sessions, plus an extra-curricular tour of Arcosanti Wednesday, September 11. It’s also a great opportunity for architects to see new and familiar products and services in our sponsor showcase hall, as well as mingle with our sponsors over cocktails or dinner. In fact, many would say the mingling and networking is what brings them back each year! Registration will open Wednesday, July 10th.
AIA Conference on Architecture 2019
This year the AIA annual Conference on Architecture will be held in Las Vegas June 6-9. If you plan to attend, make sure you register for the CRAN® Forum and our joint KC event, Link Up, with Small Project Design (SPD), Housing and Community Development (HCD) and Small Firm Exchange (SFx). You can find these events and more CRAN®-related Conference sessions in our CRAN® track, designed to help the residential practitioner select continuing educational sessions and tours and better navigate the Conference.
The Raymond Farm Center
CRAN® plays an active role in sponsoring programs and educational events at the Raymond Farm Center for Living Arts and Design in New Hope, PA. In the fall of 2017, CRAN® sponsored a program “After Wright”. The program was a great success and was followed with an article published in Residential Design Magazine. In June 18’ CRAN® sponsored another program titled “Details, Details: Residential Architecture Assembled/ the Prose & Poetry of Construction”. 2018 -2019 Student Competition
CRAN® is once again collaborating with the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) for its bi-annual Student Design Competition. More information on this will be posted as it develops. Visit ACSA's site to learn more about the 2016-2017 program and winners.
Our Legacy
In 2017 the executive committee, with the recommendation of the Legacy Committee, approved funding for a yearly scholarship through the AIA Architecture Foundation. This multi-year scholarship assists architecture students who are entering, enrolled in, or transferring to a NAAB-accredited undergraduate architecture program. This is one of the ways CRAN® is helping to advance the future of our emerging professionals.
Our Team
I would like to acknowledge the people who contribute so much to the success of CRAN®. Their volunteer time, ideas, and talent should be recognized. The 2019 ExComm members consists of Vice-Chair Lindsay Colwell, AIA; Treasurer Tom Meiklejohn, AIA; Secretary Blake Held, AIA; and Past-Chair Stuart Narofsky, FAIA. Our 2019 Advisory group consists of Mark Asher, AIA; John DeForest, AIA; Julie Hacker, FAIA; Jean Rehkamp Larson, AIA; Luis Jauregui, FAIA; Warren Lloyd, AIA; Chris Rose, AIA; Marica McKeel, AIA; and JP Pirrello, AIA.
