Greetings from the Public Architects Advisory Committee

As 2019 comes to a close, it was another busy year for our Knowledge Community and Advisory Group!

The PA Advisory Group and AdHoc committees are committed to our mission of promoting excellence in public architecture and enhancing the role of the public architect as an essential element in the planning, design, construction, and management of public facilities. We call upon an accomplished group of colleagues from many agencies and firms around the country to share their expertise, vision and solutions with our KC in the programs that we provide.  This year we held an inspiring PA Workshop at the A’19 Conference in Vegas – Built To Last: Why Public Architecture Needs to Stand the Test of Time with great speakers and engaging content. The workshop was innovative and technology infused on topics that resonate with us as we tackle the issues of climate change, resiliency, sustainability and “smart” technology. We certainly walked away inspired and ready to influence the direction of our programs!  We hope that you did, too.  Please be sure to read Julia Laue’s workshop summary in this issue.

We were glad that many of the PA workshop attendees expressed interest in “Continuing the Conversation” after the workshop was over.  This influenced our approach for the A’20 workshop proposals and provided a method of communication among PAs to share issues and solutions.  Our Cornerstone newsletter benefitted by more input from our KC.  In this issue of Cornerstone, we are initiating a new segment called “PA Soundbites” - short sentence briefs on PA project updates and accomplishments, conferences, and awards that you share with us.

Please feel free to contact us on any PA topic via AIA Knowledge.Net. Mutual collaboration benefits all.  I would like to thank our Advisory Group, AdHoc committee, and our AIA Director for their support and commitment to our KC in 2019.  We hope that you will join us for future PA workshops.  Happy Holidays!!
