The Historic Resources Committee has been busy this past summer. In June we got together at the A’19 Conference. Thanks to all who attended the HRC luncheon, it was great to connect with so many colleagues. I hope you also had a chance to attend some of the outstanding sessions and tours offered at the conference. Kudos to AIA conference planning staff and our staff liaisons Doug Paul and Maggie Brown for their efforts. In August, Historic Resources Committee Advisory Group member Jill Gotthelf, AIA and I attended the AIA Knowledge Leadership Assembly in Denver. This year, the Knowledge Community (KC) leaders met with members of the Strategic Council, both as a whole and in small groups. We also had a cross-KC meeting with members of the Committee On The Environment (COTE), discussing resources being developed by each group and how they can be complimentary. We also met with the staff from government relations to review support for pending legislation to improve the federal historic tax credit program.
Congrats to this year’s winners of the HABS Charles Peterson Prize. Historic Resources Committee Advisory Group members Jill Gotthelf, AIA and Sue Ann Pemberton, FAIA will attend the awards ceremony and AIA HRC sponsored reception at the APTI conference in Miami later this month. If you are planning to attend the APTI conference, please join us for the reception. The Peterson Prize is one of the many great programs you support as a member of the AIA Historic Resources Committee.
Mark your calendars for February 7-8, 2020 for our annual Colloquium at Taliesin West! This year our topic will be the future of building codes and how historic structures will be affected. We will have some tremendous speakers and panelists, leaders in the profession, covering topics such as ASHRAE, ICC, NFPA, Energy Codes, and Fire Risk. If you have been to Colloquium in years past, you know that the conversation is always thought provoking and the setting is inspiring. Thanks to our friends at Taliesin West for playing such a key role in making this event so successful every year. Please watch for more information.
