Greetings from Ohio! When I first became involved with the HRC more than 20 years ago, attending my first conference, I was overwhelmed by the comradery and mutual respect that the members of the HRC had for each other. This gathering of brilliant and passionate architects from around the country left me with an impression of what it means to be a part of this profession that has lasted me through my entire career.
Over the past four while serving on the Historic Resources Committee Advisory Group, it has been my very great pleasure to meet and work with so many dedicated and knowledgeable historical architects from all around the country. I am truly humbled as I step into the role of the 2019 AIA HRC chair, and have sincerely appreciated the leadership of my predecessors, James Malanaphy, AIA (MN), Peyton Hall, FAIA (CA), Ashley Wilson, AIA (DC), Karl Stumpf, FAIA (DC), and Wendy Hillis, AIA (LA).
I want to especially thank Michael Bjornberg, FAIA, (MN) our 2018 Historic Resources Committee Chair, for his leadership this past year. All of our past chairs remain involved in subcommittees and continue to be leaders in planning the annual Colloquium for the HRC. I am incredibly grateful for their continued work.
Michael now moves into the emeritus position and leads our HSAT efforts. I am delighted to be working with 2020 Chair Maya Foty, AIA (OR) who coordinates with our wonderful contributors to the newsletter, and 2021 Chair Jill Gotthelf, AIA (NY) who leads the education subcommittee. This year, we are welcoming our new 2022 Chair Sue Ann Pemberton, AIA (TX) to the Advisory Group.
We welcome you to explore and engage with the topics in the newsletter. It contains a wealth of information on HRC activities and outreach to allied organizations that we work alongside to promote the preservation and reuse of our historic resources. There are also opportunities to contribute to the content and suggest topics of interest to Historic Architects.
Please consider becoming involved with one of our subcommittees. There are many opportunities to engage in the work of the HRC and connect with colleagues working in the specialty of historic architecture.
