The inimitable Vivian Loftness, FAIA, is a professor in the architecture school at Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture, serves on the boards of AIA, ILFI (and other orgs), and is a crazy smart systems thinker who can visualize and articulate change (in industry, education, and design culture). She joined me and Lindsay Baker on the Design the Future podcast and we talked about the critical pull of standards and about using the Triple Bottom Line to cost-justify better buildings (and encourage owners to think about net present value). Vivian shared a few items on the list she keeps of things she’d do if she were in charge, including declaring that all buildings be designed for “environmental surfing.”
