Vivian Loftness on the Design the Future podcast

By Kira L. Gould Hon. AIA posted 12-04-2020 12:45 PM

The inimitable Vivian Loftness, FAIA, is a professor in the architecture school at Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture, serves on the boards of AIA, ILFI (and other orgs), and is a crazy smart systems thinker who can visualize and articulate change (in industry, education, and design culture). She joined me and Lindsay Baker on the Design the Future podcast and we talked about the critical pull of standards and about using the Triple Bottom Line to cost-justify better buildings (and encourage owners to think about net present value). Vivian shared a few items on the list she keeps of things she’d do if she were in charge, including declaring that all buildings be designed for “environmental surfing.”

Design the Future is part of the Acuity Brands’ Women in Sustainability platform. Listen here or find us on your favorite podcast app: https://lucidconnects.com/women-in-sustainability

Thank you to our tireless producers: Karen Doss Becker and Morgan Phelps.
