Top Ten Toolkit at A'19: Interactive learning

By Kira L. Gould Hon. AIA posted 06-19-2019 03:09 PM

At A’19, COTE hosted its Open Forum, where interactive learning about the Top Ten Toolkit was the top priority. First, we “learned from the locals.” Speaker Marco Velotta, a planner with the City of Las Vegas and its Office of Sustainability, talked about the long-range planning effort that the city is working on with a team from SmithGroup, and how the city is using zoning to encourage wiser water use by all.

Then, approximately 150 people spent time at groups around the room, where Toolkit contributors were focusing on Toolkit-specific topics plus advocacy:

Group 1: The Toolkit’s Super Spreadsheet + The Carbon Lens

  • Helena Zambrano, AIA, Overland Partners
  • Andrea Love, AIA, Payette

Group 2: The Toolkit for Client Engagement + Workshops

  • Corey Squire, AIA, Positive Energy
  • Gwen Fuertes, AIA, Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects

Group 3: The Toolkit as a Knowledge Management Lever

  • Tate Walker, AIA, OPN
  • Stefan Knust, AIA, Ennead

Group 4: The Toolkit’s Data Map

  • Vikram Sami, AIA, Olson Kundig

Group 5: Toolkit Contributors: Ask the Experts

  • Julie Hiromoto, AIA, HKS
  • David Hincher, AIA, Ballinger

Group 6: Advocacy Now

  • Mike Davis, FAIA, Bergmeyer

We hope to host the Open Forum as a more formal workshop next year (so that participants can get credit for the session).
