Letter from the Chair

Welcome to our first Journal of 2019!

First, we will focus on our latest Emerging Professional, Annette Chung. Born and raised in Seattle, this West Coast Professional, now working in Los Angeles, reminded me how beautiful the Stahl House is. Let’s get to know her a bit better in our interview.

Second, I would like to introduce you to the newest member of the Knowledge Leadership Group: Ms. Julian Jaffary. We had a delightful and truthful conversation in the interview She has already shared he insight on justice project as a recent jury member on the Justice Facility Review (JFR) and I am sure she will continue to offer a keen perspective to our group.  I am looking forward to working with this fellow Canadian on the Communications Committee, working on these publications and sharing them with our readers.

Third, John J. Clark was the second of our EP Scholars at 2018 AAJ Fall Conference. Here he encapsulates the very moving, solution-based and appropriate opening keynote of the conference by Judge Ginger Lerner Wren. He also speaks about one of my favorite sessions from the conference:  The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Justice Center.

Last but one, Julian Jaffary and I want to share with you the Student Design Competition for the Modern Police station Competition that our counterparts to the North, the Canadian Academy of Architecture for Justice (CAAJ), have launched,  We hope to do some reporting on the results in an upcoming issue.

Finally. Gregory Cook presents the International Corrections and Prisons Association’s website: Planning and Design Hub. The intent of this resource is to share inspiration and motivations from thought leaders around the world on the latest in confinement design. Greg stresses that this site has the “incredible potential to change not only how we work, but how we share it with the professional community.”

Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter. We are hoping to increase our following by 10% this year. Help us out please!

Kindest,

Kerry Feeney
