For an avid gamer, comfort is everything. When you are spending hours at a time, locked into a high-pressure game where one wrong move can kill your mood for days, the last thing you need is , or sunlight hitting the monitor at the wrong moment. Read on for some helpful tips to help you design the perfect gaming room.

A Well-Appointed Desk

You can’t spend hours gaming without a decent desk for your monitor, speakers, and any other equipment you need. Look for a desk that’s the right height for you. If you plan on setting up more than one monitor, the desk needs to be wide enough. A slide-out keyboard shelf is also handy.

An Ergonomic Chair

Gaming chairs are more comfortable than regular office chairs. Look for a chair that feels comfortable, whether you sit upright to type or lie back and play in an online casino or MMORPG. The best gaming chairs come with in-built Bluetooth and wireless connectivity, so you can fully immerse yourself in the gaming universe.

Technology Rules

You can’t set up a gaming room without a nod to technology. Since your consoles, speakers and computer equipment need to be connected to power outlets, there is likely to trailing everywhere. Cables are a trip hazard, so position equipment close to power outlets, or if this is not possible, have extra outlets fitted to accommodate your equipment. Try to run cables along the edge of walls, preferably inside trunking to keep them out of sight. Clip cables together and if you do need to run cables across a floor, cover them with a rug or use a cable tidy to prevent any accidents.

Controlled Lighting

Lighting is very important in a games room. Natural light is great in other rooms of the home, but not in a gaming room. Natural light disrupts gameplay when it hits a monitor and makes it very hard to see the screen. To control lighting, install blinds over windows, so you can open if the room is empty, and close them to block out the light. For best results, fit blackout blinds.

Task lighting will be unless you want to sit in darkness with only the flickering light of your monitor to guide you. A small desk lamp is perfect, as this adds light to a keyboard and mouse. In a larger room, place a lamp or down-lighter away from your computer gaming area to add additional lighting. If the room is to be used for other types of gaming, for a pool table or board games, use extra task lighting.

Home Comforts

Since gaming is a time-consuming hobby, it makes sense to install some creature comforts in your games room. A sofa bed is handy in case you want to take a nap between campaigns. A coffee machine might also come in useful for times when you need a boost of caffeine to keep you focussed.

Other useful accessories for a gaming room include extra chairs for when buddies come over, storage racks for CDs and DVDs, and a wall-mounted flat screen TV for console gaming.
