Challenging the Status Quo
November 18-21, 2015 | Conrad Miami Hotel - Miami
Deadline to Submit: Friday, May 8, 2015 at Noon Eastern Time This year's Academy of Architecture for Justice Conference is focusing on the future of justice and we are calling planners and design professionals to challenge the status quo. How you define the status quo will add depth and diversity to the discussion that come out of our panels and it an important preamble to proposals. We are looking forward to your hearing about your experiences with justice projects around the globe. We want to know how your design and planning solutions respond to and shape the future of justice in a real way. * Excerpt from the complete thematic statement on the main page. Submission Tips The planning committee seeks a diversity of submissions. However, there are a number of traits that have proven to be of greater value to our attendees over time and can improve your submission's chance of selection: - Panels must include owners or users to represent the interests of functionality, efficiency, maintenance, etc. All sessions benefit from the presence of the project team.
- Case studies must include the project architects directly involved in the project. The inclusion of emerging professionals on the design team on the panel is also highly encouraged.
- The abstract and learning objectives will be the primary content considered in the selection of sessions. It will also be the only information used to promote your session. Remember to explain how the program relates to conference theme, learning that will occur, and benefits to those who attend.
- Sessions that qualify for Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) are highly desired by attendees and therefore are preferred over non-HSW sessions.
- The conference will be organized as a series of 75-minute sessions consisting of one or more presentations. Sessions should articulate how they will engage the audience at a minimum of 20 minute intervals, the average adult attention span.
- Session should present issues of immediate relevance, solutions that are innovative and/or based on current or emerging practice in the field, and content that offers significant concepts and tools to improve skills.
- Program design and delivery allows interactivity between the audience and presenters, define the post-convention value to attendee, and describe the unique knowledge or skill that can be applied to practice.
- Proposals should reflect the AIA's repositioning initiative to: focuses on member needs/interests, engages emerging professionals, integrate rapidly changing technology, and provide tools/resources for small firm practitioners.
- Architects are visual learners. The key image should illustrate a point within your presentation.
Discounts and Travel The AIA will offer a reduced registration fee for all presenters. Please note: No reimbursement is available for travel or lodging costs. The program will accept a limited number of remote speakers and/or panelists who cannot attend in person. If any of your speakers are remote, please indicate so by their name.
