Get Involved with the AAH Board

The Academy of Architecture for Health Board Nominating Committee is requesting nominations from the AAH membership for new board member candidates. Terms of service would start January 2017 and last for three years. Criteria includes: a willingness to serve, active in the AAH, open mindedness, collaborative, etc.

Nominations can happen by two methods:

    1. Current AAH Board members can nominate candidates
    2. AAH Members at large can nominate candidates

Anyone making a nomination must provide the following information:

    1. Candidate’s name, email and phone number
    2. Confirmation that they are willing to serve on the board
    3. A letter describing why the candidate should be considered for service on the AAH Board.

Our goal is to have the board represent the diversity of the membership. Please email your suggestions to aah@aia.org by Monday, May 2

Could you tell us more about the responsibilities of the Board?  I'm unable to find much information on the site.

    Hi Karen,

Thank you for your inquiry.  The Board sets the strategic direction for the Academy, and directs its numerous initiatives. Our current initiatives are summarized in this chart:

Each board member is responsible for one of the "portfolios" shown on the top line (Communications, Education, etc.).  The activities included within each portfolio are typically led by a committee chair, who is not a board member; in some cases the board member may provide the lead.

The Board holds 12 meetings a year – three in person in conjunction with the major healthcare conferences (reasonable travel expenses reimbursed), and nine by conference call.

At a recent Board meeting, during a strategic planning session, we asked Board members to talk about why they enjoy serving on the Board. These were the responses:

           Networking, relationships, comradery

Giving back to the profession and younger generation

           Recognition, honor; comes with responsibility

           Ability influence the profession

Opportunity to establish and build relationships with other organizations

           Being "in the know"

Increase individual's ability to work on something that they are passionate about

Able to access resources to make a change

Surround myself with people smarter than me

Provides credibility when we take info in national setting back to local projects with resources, contacts and knowledge to better the design and client.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me for additional information.
