Who we are

The AIA Technology in Architectural Practice Knowledge Community (TAP) serves as a resource for AIA members, the profession, and the public in the deployment of computer technology in the practice of architecture. TAP leaders monitor the development of computer technology and its impact on architecture practice and the entire building life cycle, including design, construction, facility management, and retirement or reuse.

WE309  Corporate Architects and Facilities Management Workshop: Leading BIM's Extension into Operations and Management

Building information modeling (BIM) has proven to be a revolutionary connection between the architect and the builder. Extending BIM into facilities operations allows for a similar connection between the architect and the owner, unifying design and operations. By connecting the BIM design model to the BIM operations model, the architect connects to the people who will operate and occupy the project, creating a legacy that should last the lifetime of the project and extending design intent and design services far into the future. This is a key opportunity for architects to take a leadership role and expand the services that they offer to clients.

    Thurs. June 20 4:00 - 5:30
TH308 Corporate Architects and Facility Management Seminar: Being Better Architects by Leading the Community

Architects demonstrate professional leadership in their role as the leader of the design team. The strong leadership skills developed in the course of serving this role can naturally be extended to community leadership outside of professional practice. Corporate architects take the role of professional leadership one step further by assuming the role of leading the entire process of facility strategy; entitlements; capital budgeting; selection and direction of design and construction teams; and responsibility for ongoing operation of completed facilities. In this expanded leadership role, extraordinary leadership skills are developed that can generate tremendous value for the community.
