Who we are

The AIA Technology in Architectural Practice Knowledge Community (TAP) serves as a resource for AIA members, the profession, and the public in the deployment of computer technology in the practice of architecture. TAP leaders monitor the development of computer technology and its impact on architecture practice and the entire building life cycle, including design, construction, facility management, and retirement or reuse.

AutoDesk is a racket and has been for years. I got off that horse when I found software that works just like Autocad and is FREE! Look at DoubleCad XT and DraftSight. It has identical commands to AutoDesk so, no learning curve. Programs like this will eventually knock AutoDesk to their knees when more individuals switch and don't renew their subscriptions. Even SketchUp will eventually respond to this need and offer construction document capability equal to or exceeding AutoDesk's self inflated worth. I am sure there are other programs that are free or low cost so, if one of you has another to add to the list, please forward so that all of us can try and evaluate. AutoDesk wants to be the Swiss Army Knife of programs but, I have a lot of different tools in my tool box that I don't mind using to avoid being part of their scheme.

You may like to Check out PlusSpec, it works inside  of Sketchup and gives Parametric functionality just like Archicad and Revit, it also prepares the 2D output for Layout.
Very powerful and BIM is the main objective plusspec.com and is less than $400
