Bio

I have 13 consolidated years of professional work experience in the architectural field. While most of this experience has been in the development of new commercial construction and renovation projects, I have an extensive background in historic rehabilitation, and for two years I enjoyed developing experience in the Federal marketplace with projects for the DOD and the Army Corps of Engineers.
The last two years have been spent as a Independent Contractor, working as a temp at various firms, doing small residential remodel projects, as well as volunteer work for the AIA. I also have extensive experience with LEED and other “green” architecture designs including an Energy Star “net zero” house.

My professional development had temporarily moved away from licensure due to some personal issues. The culmination of this introspection led me to a sabbatical traveling throughout Europe for 2 months rediscovering why I wanted to be an architect. Upon my return I selected firms I wanted to work for on the firm culture and the personalities of those I would be working with. I was looking for a fit that would be rewarding and fulfilling experience and a place I could learn and grow. I meet some people along the way that were inspirational both professionally and personally. My interest in licensure was renewed, unfortunately the economy intervened. While unemployed I took and passed my LEED AP exam and my ARE.

I am very detail and research orientated with strong technical skills and always looking to improve myself and my work. I have coordinated architecture, interiors, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, civil, and landscape on projects and found I enjoy it. Give me a preliminary design and I can delve into the technical aspects to deliver a buildable set of documents complete and coordinated.

I have been an active member of AIA since 2000, participating and leading programs such as AIA Dayton High School Student Design Competition and The 2009 & 2011 AIA Ohio Valley Region Conventions. When I reprised my role for the 2011 convention in Dayton, Ohio I created something new, The Unconvention for Emerging Professionals. I have served as AIA Dayton Associate Director, AIA Ohio Associate Director, and Regional Associate Director for Ohio Valley. Among my responsibilities for these positions were dealing with issues of architectural licensure, keeping Emerging Professionals in architecture and on the path of career development, and I helped put forth a law in Ohio requiring IDP supervisors to verify their employees work experience.

While on the National Associates Committee I spoke on behalf of the AIA NAC at the 2010 AIAS Forum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am now serving on the AIA National Diversity Committee. This has provided me valuable leadership experience and has given me the opportunity to serve and better our profession.
