    The AIA and the AIA Colorado are hosting a morning workshop on Thursday, April 9 to help you and your firm take advantage of the numerous architectural opportunities in thriving and emerging overseas markets. Working Abroad - Pros, Cons, & Ways Forward will provide you with knowledge of the ins and outs of working in foreign countries. India, Brazil, and the Middle East will serve as case studies for any international work, as they offer a myriad of opportunities to expand your business portfolio. This workshop will be held from 8:30am-12:00pm at AIA Colorado, 303 E 17th Ave #110 Denver, CO 80203.     This training session will assist firms and members by connecting them with members who have done work internationally, the U.S. Department of Commercethe Small Business Administration, and the Export-Import Bank.

    Attendees will learn about business opportunities that are available across the globe (including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Brazil, and India) resources provided by the Federal government, and how to best use those resources. Problems that can occur while working abroad, how business practices differ from the United States, and how to comply with foreign laws will also be topics of discussion.

      • Firms who are working on large infrastructure projects and want to find out more about U.S. Government funding opportunities

    Jon Gambrill, AIA, NCARB, LEED® AP

    Gensler

    In his 15 years with Gensler, Jon has brought a level of leadership instrumental to the continued growth and success of our Denver office, which celebrated its 40th year in 2013. Jon is actively involved in the Downtown Denver Partnership, the Colorado Chapters of NAIOP, AIA and ULI. He has served on the advisory board of Metro State College of Denver's Civil Engineering and Technology Industrial program. Jon also is a frequent speaker on the subject of commercial building design and recently led a panel on efficiencies gained through the design-build process for the Design Build Institute of America. Jon earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. He practiced professionally in New York, London, Chicago and Los Angeles before pursuing a Master of Architecture at the University of Illinois in Chicago and settling in Denver.

    Lana Lennberg

    U.S. Department of Commerce/U.S. Commercial Service

    Lana Lennberg is a Senior International Trade Specialist with the US Department of Commerce/US Commercial Service (USCS) and has been assigned to the US Export Assistance Center (EAC) in Denver, Colorado since 1998. The EAC combines the efforts of the US Department of Commerce, the Small Business Administration, Export-Import Bank, and other partner organizations to assist exporters in marketing and financing their products and services internationally. The industry sectors Lana covers include environmental technologies, architecture, construction/building products, engineering, services exports, electronics, education and franchise services. She also served as the global Environmental Technologies Team Leader in 2004.

    Prior to this appointment, Lana served on active duty in the US Army during Desert Storm and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington and Seoul, Korea.

    Ms. Lennberg also has worked in the commercial sections of the US Embassies in both Brussels, Belgium and Lima, Peru. She holds a B.S. in Business Management from Metropolitan State College of Denver and an M.S. in International Business from the University of Colorado at Denver.

    Bryson Patterson

    U.S. Small Business Administration

    Bryson Patterson is the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Regional Trade Finance Specialist. He helps small business and lenders in the Rocky Mountain Region to access SBA's export finance programs and provides counseling and training on trade finance topics. Patterson underwrites SBA Export Working Capital lines of credit. He holds a master's degree from the University of California, San Diego. Patterson enjoys fishing with his wife and three children.     Joshua Reitze,

    U.S. Department of Commerce

    Joshua Reitze is the manager for the Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Lebanon, and Israel portfolios in the U.S. Department of Commerce's Advocacy Center.  In that capacity, he coordinates U.S. Government support for American companies responding to public-sector competitive procurements in those markets.  In addition, he is responsible for performing Advocacy Center-focused outreach to the business communities in the Western states.  A native of Colorado, Joshua received a BA from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an MA in international relations from the University of Denver's Korbel School of International Studies.​
