As one of the recipients of the 2013 Committee on Design Knowledge Scholarship, I've just recently returned from an amazing experience in Palm Springs, CA. As a native of Los Angeles, this desert oasis (both literally and figuratively) is only a 2 hour drive away, yet seemingly a world apart. The scenic tranquility of the desert, the presence of the mountains, and a rich and unique modernist legacy made this the perfect place for the spring conference "Regional Modernism".

Member Slideshows are created each year for the Spring Conference to
illustrate the recent work of the attendee’s firms. All COD members are
welcome to participate. Attendees have 6 slides and 60 seconds to

Meet Elizabeth Chu Richter, born in
Nanjing, China, raised in Hong Kong and Dallas Texas, Richter is CEO of
award winning firm Richter Architects. Named as the “Newsmaker of the
Year” by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times in 2002, the newspaper
recognized that “… [Richter] has done award-winning work to educate the
