Bio

Jenine Kotob, AIA, is an award-winning architect, community organizer, and thought leader with over 13 years of experience in the design industry. She serves as the Senior Director of Career Advancement at The American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Washington, D.C. At AIA National, Jenine and her team focus on the development of a more equitable profession. Prior to joining AIA, Jenine worked at a variety of architecture firms around the Greater DC area and has dedicated her career to designing safe, healthy, and community-driven education facilities.

In 2020, she was named the inaugural AIA Citizen Architect, an award that recognized her federal advocacy efforts around school safety design. Her expertise has been featured in The Washington Post, Reuters, Congressional Quarterly, The New York Times, Slate Magazine, Education Week, ArchDaily, and Metropolis Magazine. She has spoken at numerous conferences including the National League of Cities, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the Association for Learning Environments, and the AIA Virginia Arch Exchange East, among others.

Jenine was founder and chair of the AIA Virginia Committee on Architecture for Education, and she served as a board member for several other non-profit organizations, including the Network of Arab-American Professionals. She holds a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech University. In her free time, Jenine does pro-bono design work for local communities and has designed a variety of projects, including a mosque, community center, art therapy center, and teaching barn.
