Bio

For more than 30 years, Dennis J. Hall FAIA, FCSI has sought to improve the practice of architecture through the development of industry-wide practice standards for construction information, with the goal of achieving higher performing buildings. He has used his practice as a laboratory to test and implement the practice tools he helps develop. As a forensic architect, author, specifier, and speaker he shares his expertise and knowledge with the profession and the entire construction industry through professional writings, seminars, teaching, and consulting services of the firm.

Mr. Hall is an award winning architect and construction specifier, with numerous design, specifications, and other professional awards to his credit including the Young Architects Award from the South Atlantic Region of the American Institute of Architects, the William Dietrich Service Medal from the North Carolina Chapter of the AIA, and five national specification awards, including three Honor Awards from the Construction Specifications Institute. He has also been recognized by Engineering News Record as one of the top 25 construction newsmaker of 2005 and by the National Institute of Building Sciences with their prestigious 2005 Institute Honor Award, which “recognizes individuals or organizations that have made exceptional contributions to the nation and the building community.”

As a leader in the construction industry Mr. Hall has served on numerous boards, committees, and panels for various professional organizations and has written and lectured on design and the project delivery process throughout the US and Canada. In 2000, he was elevated to Fellowship in the Construction Specifications Institute and in 2005, advanced to Fellowship in the American Institute of Architects for his notable contributions to the construction industry and the creation of industry standards for the instruments of services for design professionals.
Mr. Hall has served in leadership capacity with numerous professional and industry organizations, including national President of the Construction Specifications Institute, President of Specifications Consultants in Independent Practice, Chair of the AIA Upjohn Research awards Jury, Chair of the CSI/CSC MasterFormat Expansion Task Team. He currently serves as a member of the buildingSMART alliance Board of Direction, Building Systems Design Board of Directors, Chair of the AIANC Fellows Committee, and the Vice Chancellor of the CSI College of Fellows.
