The AIA Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art and Architecture (IFRAA) Knowledge Community encourages and supports excellence in the design of worship spaces and their accoutrements. The IFRAA Knowledge Community is an association of professionals whose primary interest is religious facilities in a broad array of traditions. We value an interfaith forum for the exchange of ideas relating to religion, art, and architecture.

George RaffertyGeorge Rafferty, FAIA, is the 2012 recipient of the Edward S. Frey Award.  The award is given to an architect and member of the AIA who has demonstrated passion for and dedication to quality worship and sacred spaces, fostered spiritual values, and promoted cross-denominational community focused on religious arts and architecture.

Rafferty, 94, is a founding principal of Rafferty Rafferty Tollefson Lindeke Architects in Minnesota.  In the 51 years since, Rafferty and his partners have been the recipients of 10 IFRAA Design Awards.  Considered one of the founders of modernism in Minnesota, he was the 6th recipient of the AIA Minnesota Gold Medal.

The award will be presented on May 18 during the AIA's National Convention in Washington, DC.

Inspiring Religious Architecture
Friday, May 18 | 6:00-7:00 pm

Demonstrating the Diversity of Religious Architecture throughout the World: This session will focus on the inspiring architectural projects that were recipients of the Religious Art & Architecture Design Awards. More than 20 highlighted projects will illustrate the diversity of religious architecture throughout the world, accompanied by insightful discussion, critique, and jury comment.
Earn 1.00 CEH.

Religious buildings and spaces are bridges between the sacred and the secular—ranging from small chapels to large complexes that include worship spaces, offices, and outreach facilities to serve the community at large. Join the AIA Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art and Architecture (IFRAA) and Faith & Form magazine for an awards reception that will honor outstanding designs that represent the best of building, space, and art on national and international levels.
